Implementation of Stolcad^® Professional for external roller shutters at DOOR-MET Romania – Case Study

DOOR-MET, a Romanian company, has specialized in designing and manufacturing technological solutions for window and door shading systems since 2005. Since 2021, in collaboration with us, the company has been systematically improving its processes. The range of DOOR-MET products includes shutters, aluminium external roller shutters, rolling garage doors, blinds, and mosquito screens.

A comprehensively configured technological database in Stolcad^® Professional facilitates daily work and ensures accurate price calculations, as well as the generation of production and offer printouts. To enable the best possible database configuration, we offer our clients online technological training and direct support from our technologists during the data setup process. DOOR-MET utilized both of these solutions, allowing for the full implementation of Stolcad^® Professional while maintaining control over database quality.

As part of the implementation, we configured serveral rolling shutters systems both with front mounted box, and top mounted box. These systems include single-, double-, and triple-layer roller shutter schemes, as well as a roll-up mosquito net system that can be applied to selected roller shutter segments. With the open technological databases of Stolcad^® Professional, the trained technologists at DOOR-MET can independently modify and expand the existing databases in the future, adapting them to the changing production needs.

The implementation of Stolcad^® Professional at DOOR-MET significantly improved the external roller shutter design process. One of the most valued features of the program turned out to be the intuitive configurator, which enables designing shutters on a single screen, eliminating the need to go back to the previous steps or restart the project from scratch.

This functionality allows DOOR-MET designers to quickly modify roller shutter parameters and dimensions, leading directly to time savings and increased work efficiency. Additionally, real-time visualization enables immediate assessment of the changes, eliminating the need for additional calculations.

The implementation of Stolcad^® Professional at DOOR-MET provided users with full control over the configuration and design process of external roller shutters. It became possible to precisely adjust the selection of components and price calculations according to the needs of a given project. The most important configuration options include:

• Convenient resizing of structures.
• Flexible division schemes – configuration of shutters, mosquito nets, and rolling tubes in various layouts.
• Customization of drive placements.
• Advanced technical parameters – including box height, tube diameter and type, guide rail type, control method, and revision.
• Individual colour customization.

An additional advantage of Stolcad^® Professional is the ability to add custom parameters, giving users even more flexibility. Editing is done both through drop-down lists and directly on the drawing, which greatly streamlines the design process. One of the practical solutions is the ability to replace components directly on the drawing, such as individual shutter slats. This function is particularly useful for mixed arrangements of full and perforated slats, ensuring precise adaptation of the product to individual requirements. As a result, the implementation of Stolcad^® Professional has enabled DOOR-MET to optimize the design process, increase precision, and save time.

The implementation of Stolcad^® Professional has helped eliminate common technological errors. The program restricts parameter selection to those that are actually suitable for a given project. For example:

• The list of available rolling tubes includes only profiles that meet the bending moment requirements based on the width and the weight of the shutter.
• The program suggests appropriate drives for the shutter's weight and adjusts the boxes according to the diameter of the rolled-up curtain.

Even the standard functions of Stolcad^® Professional significantly streamline the production process. The software allows for the creation of configurable lists of elements necessary for order fulfilment. These lists can be sorted by suppliers or component manufacturers, including only the required items. Meanwhile, cutting lists enable quick preparation of the elements of the specified lengths for the entire order. Production printouts help workers efficiently complete each stage of the order fulfilment process.

DOOR-MET chose to use the material-based method in Stolcad^® Professional for external roller shutter pricing. This allows material costs to be precisely calculated based on actual raw material consumption, including the price per linear meter of profiles and waste-related surcharges. This approach ensures accurate cost estimation and allows the company to adjust its pricing policy to the current market conditions. Additionally, the program enables DOOR-MET to flexibly manage mark-ups, surcharges, and fixed costs, improving the quotation process and enhancing pricing transparency.

DOOR-MET utilizes the automatic offer generation function in Stolcad^® Professional, which has significantly streamlined the process of preparing customer documents. By applying a detailed template model, each quotation includes a clear cost breakdown for individual order elements. Customers receive a complete and readable quotation, making decision-making easier. Automating this process has allowed DOOR-MET to shorten offer preparation time and eliminate the risk of errors, resulting in higher service quality and a stronger position in the external roller shutter market.
